By his mid twenties, Ian Perkins was building his family business Associated Fashion Distributors (AFD) into one of the largest fashion agencies in Australia, representing Table Eight, Dolina, Aero, Stitches, Black Pepper, Sunshades – Just to name a few. After selling AFD, he joined Geiger Enterprises as Managing Director, where he strategically moved all production and distribution of their three brands Geiger, Lavender Road and Blue Skies offshore to China. Thirteen months later he purchased two of the brands and focused on balancing successful wholesale relationships with national department store chain David Jones and in excess of 500 boutiques around Australia and New Zealand, as well as building a key concession business with Harris Scarfe.
With such a proven track record of building business, in an ever changing market, Ian soon identified the need to strategically build his next business voice – A vertically integrated retail business which he named Sorbet.
The first Sorbet store opened at DFO Brisbane in 2006, followed by stores at Harbourtown on the Gold Coast and Adelaide, then further DFO locations in Cairns and Canberra, and a freestsanding store at Maroochydore on Queensland’s beautiful Sunshine Coast. Ian lead the market by introducing “new seasons merchandise” to “clearance centres” and together with a clear understanding of Sorbet’s target market, a great team, sensational customer service, a wonderful product mix and an innovative promotional program he created an award winning retail concept, which he sold in 2012.
Ian Perkins now spends his time strategically building business voices for other business owners, locally, nationally and internationally.
